Your cleanings are always accompanied by patient education, and we use modern visual aids to make it simple and effective. We believe that showing you how to keep your teeth and gums healthy in between visits goes a long way toward good oral health for life.

Ultrasonic scaler for your comfort

To effectively blast away unwanted debris from your teeth, we use an ultrasonic scaler. It is a piezo scaler, meaning it moves across the tooth horizontally rather than vertically. It’s harmless to your teeth and makes your periodontal cleaning faster and more thorough.

High-tech diagnostic tools

Periodontal charting is a procedure in which each tooth is carefully inspected as to the size of the space, or pocket, between the tooth and gum. The measurements are plotted on a chart. Our hygienists use hand tools for that important human touch – catching problems that can’t be felt with a machine.

For precision diagnostics we also use an intraoral camera to capture highly detailed images of your teeth.

Competent Gum Disease Treatment

If your exam reveals mild to moderate gum disease, our hygienists take care of it using our first rate equipment. They provide excellent quality treatment while being considerate of your comfort.

Scaling and root planing

An anesthetic is gently administered and we remove buildup on your teeth and under the gums while irrigating the area – known as scaling. The tooth root is then “planed,” or smoothed out, to remove any rough spots that attract bacteria.

Eliminating the bacteria

The doctor prescribes Peri-dex™, a powerful mouth rinse, and Prevident®, an extra-strength fluoride toothpaste, to help you continue to fight the disease-causing bacteria.

Follow-up to keep your gums healthy

Follow-up visits are arranged for special periodontal (gum) cleanings to help you maintain the progress you’ve made and get your mouth completely back to a healthy state.

Severe Gum Disease

For severe gum disease treatment, we refer you to a trusted periodontist (gum disease specialist) right up the street who we have worked with for years.
