Preserving your natural teeth for life

Our general approach is conservative. We do step-by-step work that builds you back to excellent oral health, using a combination of techniques and never pushing unnecessary dentistry. We respect you, your concerns and needs. We are very moderate about removing teeth and will do what’s possible to help you keep your teeth.

New Patient Exam: thorough, high-tech diagnostics

Review of dental & health history

The first step is to check in with our friendly Receptionist, who will assist you with your paperwork (if not already done online). Your health and dental history are reviewed. The next step is our high-tech diagnostics.

Low-radiation digital X-rays and photos

You will receive a full series of digital X-rays. This step includes four low-radiation digital bitewing X-rays and a panoramic X-ray, showing a broad view of your teeth and jaw structure. We also take a full series of photos of your smile for use in planning your treatment and for your patient records.

Periodontal exam

After checking in and getting your X-rays, you’ll see one of our experienced hygienists. With a gentle touch and skillful eye, a periodontal (gum) exam is done, inspecting the area around each tooth and recording the results on a chart.

If your gum health is good, you will be able to get one of our professional cleanings. If there is a periodontal issue, alternate cleaning treatment is discussed.

Comprehensive exam with the doctor

The doctor will do a thorough exam which includes a visual inspection of your teeth and gums. He will also go over your X-rays and photos with you and explain what they show.

TMJ screening

An important part of oral health is the proper alignment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) – the place where your lower jaw is hinged to your skull. The doctor checks your bite for any misalignment that could cause headaches or other discomfort.

Oral cancer screening

Your exam includes a careful check of your head and neck for any unusual conditions. Although problems are rarely found, this is an important test.

Written treatment plan

Based on the exam results and your personal consultation with the doctor about your smile goals, you’ll be given a customized treatment plan. We work with you and your budget so that you can get your treatment.

Checkups

Because we care about seeing that you have great oral health for life, we suggest you come in for regular checkups every six months. You will receive an exam of your teeth and gums, oral cancer screening and a meticulous cleaning. Once a year we take a set of bitewing X-rays. We catch any problems early. The doctor will also see you and let you know of any problems discovered and go over the options with you on the best way to address them.
